Edventure Map™ Process

How People Learn

Everyone has their own learning style–how best they take in information, process it, and then act upon it. Organizations often don’t factor in this difference in learning styles when they create training and education programs. This produces less-than-effective outcomes, longer training time, only partial understanding and incomplete alignment of activities. The result for the organization is a lower return on their training investment.

The Edventure Map™ Process takes into consideration peoples’ different ways of learning and thus maximizes understanding as well as longer-term retention that leads to action when people return to their daily job responsibilities and activities.

Edventure Maps bring together six different learning modalities:

  • Small group settings—preferably in cross-functional groups of six to ten people allowing participants to hear and learn from one another;
  • Visualization or Storyboarding of complex business issues—to allow group members to link issues to graphic images and form a common language and understanding;
  • Industry or Business specific data that supports the Storyboard metaphor;
  • Socratic Dialogue questions that allow group members to offer opinions, comments and insights in a non-threatening atmosphere;
  • Learning Exercises and Simulations that put group members in different scenarios to enhance understanding and recognition;
  • Facilitation—the process is one of self-discovery as opposed to instruction and delivery of the “right” understanding.

By utilizing these components, Edventure Maps deliver the following benefits:

  • The process accelerates learning of vital issues, dramatically reducing cycle times (and real cost). Populations as large as 10,000 to 100,000 employees can be reached in months.
  • The process provides no answers. Instead, the Edventure Map presents very targeted and provocative questions on core organizational issues, challenging participants to think…often driving each person to address unpleasant but nonetheless vital systemic and environmental realities.
  • Implementation of the Edventure Map™ Process requires no instructors or trainers. Instead organizational leaders, managers, supervisors, or front-line employees can serve as facilitators.
